The
Internet is little more than a network of interconnected
computers. In order to identify each computer on the net
a unique identification number known as an IP Address is
allocated to every computer connected to the net. This address
looks something like this 123.123.123.123.
Because we human beings find it difficult to remember a
string of numbers a system has been developed to make it
easier for us. This system is the Domain Names System. Each
domain name is unique representation which is then associated
with a particular IP address or server.
The
process of associating a domain name with a server is called
DNS hosting of that domain name and enables people browsing
the internet or sending email to find where the web sites
and email for that domain reside. Your web site and email
are the placed on the hosting server to make them available
to the rest of the world.
Domain
Name Levels.
Top level domain names are made up of a name plus .com .net
.org etc. Other levels subdivide this to countries such
as .com.au for an Australian Domain Name. If you want your
own domain name your need to register to use it for a period
